Yesterday was my first day of work in my lifetime :D And I really enjoyed it even though it's quite tiring carrying heavy stuff and pushing trolleys around. Fortunately, Nixon, Hiokshian and Yaohong were working with me yesterday, so I wouldn't feel so bored haha.
My handphone always goes sotsot when I'm at JE station. The same thing happened to my handphone yesterday. Nixon was telling me beforehand that I must board the train when he calls me. Okay so I waited, and 3 trains went by. I was thinking something's wrong. So I took out my phone, and saw an icon with a phone and a slash across it. DIEEEE. I restarted my handphone and called Nixon. Then he thought I already boarded the same train as him LOL. Okay nice one then I had to board the next train when they were already reaching Queenstown.
We met at Citywhore station and I didn't know Raffles Hotel was so near, but we had to cross that dangerous 3-lanes(or is it 4-lanes?) wide road to get to the hotel. So I just followed them to the basement to register and do those admin staff and got our shirt, blazer and name tag. HI, MY NAME FOR YESTERDAY WAS CALLED OWEN. OWEN AS IN MICHAEL OWEN. So dumb la the name. Nixon told me he got a name tag with 'May' on it before LOL. After changing and putting our belongings into the lockers, we headed to the office. The people in the office asked us to go eat lunch first lolol.
Okay so in the canteen, we drank Milo. Milo and milo and milo, Yaohong's addicted to Milo haha. Then we sat down and went up shortly after that. My first task was to push the gueridon(I don't know if this is the right word) from the ballroom to the corridors. I was paired up with Hiokshian while Nixon and Yaohong was ordered to do their stuff at another place.
There was this Malay guy, same age as us and was from Victoria School(according to Hiokshian). He's very friendly and didn't like a fat China girl whom he described as slack because she committed a lot of mistakes during a Western wedding(supposed to be the simplest event to do) and he had to cover up for her. So probably from then on, he really disliked that girl and scolded profanities at her when she was not in the ballroom with us LOL.
New tasks kept coming and I didn't have much time to rest, but the tasks was really quite interesting. I also learnt how to fold the Raffles napkin and open it up to form a very nice shape :D One thing which really disgusted me was that red ants were found on the napkins which were put on the plates in the ballroom, but the people just chose not to care about the red ants. Probably they think that the red ants will make their way out of the napkins and plate by today(because what we prepared yesterday was for today).
After that we went to have our dinner and even dinnertime was so surprising. Hiokshian placed his tray of food by the edge and he accidentally knocked it down(I think) and the whole tray and FOOD went crashing onto the ground. I was like shockz and then quickly helped him pick up the plate and bowl. Scary. When I was walking to my seat, I slipped on a small puddle of water and some soup splashed out of my bowl. Fortunately I didn't fall and the soup didn't scald my hand. At that moment I really felt 999999x times luckier than Hiokshian LOL.
Dinner was good and we continued with our job at another room. My tasks included counting the dishes in the kitchen and bringing them into the room. It was rather tedious for a first-timer like me because I was sooooo afraid that the dishes drop and break. Fortunately the two kind Malay guys were helpful and always assisting us in such things. And then I had to wipe the plates and bowls which was like -.- Then the supervisor or whoever Jiawei kept asking me to do other things when I was enjoy my time in the room wiping dishes. Damn sian leh him.
It was around 8pm and we were all at the back of the room. Initially I saw some of them looking out of the hotel. I walked closer and I noticed that they were looking at a group of girls who were dancing in a studio opposite the hotel LOLS. Nothing much to see one.
I was stationed at a spot to pour iced water for the people at the event. It was a dance musical from Mayflower Secondary. Behind me was a shelf full of wine glasses which were used to contain iced water LOL. All I had to do was to pour and serve them. When the performance ended, people kept coming to ask for water and the the glasses were used up very quickly. Even 25 jars of water weren't enough to quench the people's thirst.
The students were very funny. Some shyly came and asked me for refill of water. A few asked me 'Eh how much per hour?' I was stunned for a few seconds and replied. After replying, I was wondering if they were asking me jokingly for the price of being a duck per hour HAHA. Then some councillors came and requested to pour the water for themselves LOLOL so joke one.
I was pouring and looking at the delicious glasses of iced water but I couldn't drink! I was so damn thirsty and my legs were quite sour after not being able to walk about for a long time. They still said that my job was very slack. It's not slack at all! I think Nixon's job as person who pours coffee/tea was much slacker than mine la. The jugs were heavy and now my fingers are aching okay.
After the event ended, the manager treated us to the leftovers LOL, not those kind of rottn leftovers but leftovers which were nicely placed and looked untouched by people. The sandwiches and croissants were cold and delicious! I loved the croissants, but it seemed that most of them prefered the sandwiches instead. They told me that the manager was the best among the 3 managers. He allowed us to eat the leftovers and didn't scold us, unlike the other two, which are probably unkind? wicked? evil? I don't know. I hope I get the same manager on Saturday haha.
Yesterday's event ended early so the hotel didn't provide transport back home D: In total, we worked for 9.5 hours instead of the expected 11 hours sian, but got $$$ jiu okay le hahaha. When I got home, I bathed, drank soup and got into lala land straight after lying on my bed. I woke up at 12nn today WOOHOO lols.
